The Palo Alto football team finished last season with a league record of 3-2, placing them second in De Anza. They went on to win division IV CCS playoffs with a triumphant 34-33 victory against Mountain View. The Vikings ended their long and successful season with a loss to St. Vincent de Paul 28-26, ultimately leaving them with a record of 8-6.
“The playoff run last year was a great experience to say the least,” current quarterback Justin Fung (‘27) said. “Last season was successful for the most part, but this year I think we’ll be stronger and mentally faster, giving us a great shot to finally get to that state game.”
Practices and training for the upcoming season began months ago, led by head coach David DeGeronimo.
“This offseason we have been training constantly, from weightlifting in the mornings to practices in the afternoons,” Fung said. “The time commitment expected for the football team may seem like a lot, but it is going to be a great testament to our preparation for when the season comes.”
The Vikings have four home games in their regular season this year: September 13th against Christopher, October 11th against Sacred Heart Prep, October 18th against Wilcox, and finally November 8th against Los Gatos. Despite the demanding schedule the team has ahead of them, they still aim to fight through each opportunity given.
“We are in a more challenging league and have a lot of new varsity players, so we have some challenges ahead,” junior Jake Wang said. “As a team, we want to be able to compete in every game, and hopefully win another CCS championship. I’m looking forward to our first game of the season against Mountain View.”
