The Vikings secured their first home game win of the season against the Sacred Heart Gators, leaving them with a record of 5-1.
After a tough loss at the previous home game, the football team wanted to show their strength. “We felt confident in the plan, and the group of players we have on both sides of the ball,” senior Jeremiah Fung said. “Everyone was locked in before the game, ready to win.”
Fung believes that a great fraction of their success was owed to the defense. “I think the team performed great on the defensive side of the ball, we stopped the [opposing teams´] run pretty well,” Fung said. “The D line knew that they had to hold it down up front for us to win, and I feel like they did.”
Fung credits seniors Joe Kessler and Roman Jacobs with “flying around the field making plays all night,” which Fung believed made sizable contributions to their defense.
This victory places the Vikings in a favorable position in League, paving the way for success in the future. They will face off against Wilcox (4-2) this Friday at 7:00 pm. “Every game is important for the future, winning against SHP is great, but we need to keep winning in order to have a future,” Fung said.
