Paly field hockey lost to the number one seed, Christopher High School on Monday 4-0. Paly qualified for CCS as the 4th seed out of six from the SCVAL league and were met with a tough challenge.
Unfortunately, the Vikings did not come out strong enough during the 1st quarter, which cost them the game. By the end of the first the Vikings were down 3-0 and were never able to recover. Christopher only managed to score one more goal the rest of the game, as they were met with the Vikings tough defense and ability to shut down their shooters.
“Mondays game was challenging,” sophomore Hannah Niebuhr said. “Christopher came out with a lot of energy, scoring three quick goals in the first quarter. We managed to settle in and hold them back after that, and I think our defense did a really good job—they couldn’t have done it any better. It felt like the other team wanted the win more than we did and for some reason, we couldn’t quite match their intensity.”
Despite the unfortunate end to the season, sophomore Ella Renazco-Sperling believes in not only the teams progress, but their ability.
“We had a great season, our teams chemistry and skills improved so much from the first game,” Renazco-Sperling said. “Just getting to CCS for the first time in PALY history was a victory for us.”
