The Paly Boys Water Polo team had a substandard season after finishing with a record of 13-14 and placing 4th in league. They came up just short, barely failing to qualify for CCS, even after beating Gunn in the final game of the season.
“I think it was a pretty disappointing season because we didn’t make CCS,” junior Dylan Liao said. “It’s like the first time in a long time Paly hasn’t made CCS.”
Throughout the season, the team was facing challenges, a number of players remained unavailable thanks to injuries and illnesses. However, the Vikings did their best to fight through adversity.
“Considering our team’s injury record, we did the best we could,” junior Felix Ryans said.
The peak of the season came when the Vikings played Serra in a triple overtime match. Despite losing, many of the players saw this is as when the team looked the best.
“The Serra game was very close and that was when we were at our best because no one was sick and we were all playing together,” junior Andrew Zhao said.
Despite the disappointing season, the Vikings are optimistic about the future and will continue to improve.
“I am hopeful for next season because we have a great team with teammates who are well bonded,” junior Jack Spitzer said. I think we have grown a lot as a team mostly in how we deal with adversity.”
Next year, the team will likely overcome the roster issues and strive to become better.
