Palo Alto water polo fell to crosstown rival Gunn 6-9 on senior night, Tuesday, Oct. 25. The stands were filled with fans for the Lady Vikes’ last home game.
Gunn came out strong with three goals in the first quarter, but Skylar Dorosin (’12) put Palo Alto on the score board scoring the last goal in the period.
By the end of the second quarter, Gunn and Paly had scored twice each. Leaving the pool for half time with a score of 3-5.
Gunn started off the second half with a goal in the first two minutes. Eve Higgins (’12) saved three shots in three minutes. The Lady Vikes were right back in it with a goal. The quarter ended with a score of 4-6.
A long pass from Gunn’s goal keeper resulted in a breakaway, the last quarter was started off with a goal from Gunn’s attack, again. Dorosin lead the attack as an offensive threat. With shots off the post and fouls; the game was heating up. Palo Alto’s crowd seemed alive again with cheers and whistles. The players picked it up as well.
Coming right off of a five-meter shot with three minutes 48 seconds left in the game, Dorosin kept her team, above water. She fought back by putting away two back-to-back goals. Just one goal behind Gunn, the intensity stepped up. Within a minute, Gunn and Palo Alto both had two attempts at goal, and both were unsuccessful. Although, with one minute 42 seconds left on the clock, the Titans lobbed the ball over Higgins head. The Lady Vikes were two goals down, but Dorosin kept the offensive attacks going strong. Palo Alto was unable to find the back of the net. Gunn’s counter-attack was successful leaving the final score 6-9.
Palo Alto is looking for a more positive result in their next away game against Homstead on Thursday, Oct 27 at 3:30 p.m.
