Palo Alto Vikings’ look for a better performance and yet another win, 14-5, against Leland High School at home, Thursday night.
“We definitely got the outcome we were looking for, since last time we didn’t play our best against them,” Vikings attack, Kimmie Flather said.
Two early goals allowed Paly to dominate with a shut out, until 19 minutes left in the half when a bolt of speed from offense on Leland put the ball in the back of the net. Scrambles in front of both teams’ goals left the game up in the air.
“I think we intended on the game being a shut out,” Middie Jordan Smith said.
Momentum shifted back to Paly with five goals, three from junior Flather. Late in the half Leland came back with two low shots hitting the back of the net, leaving Paly still in the lead, 7-3, going into half time.
Over confidence going into the second half allowed the chargers to maintain possession, but unable to score.
“It was a little shaky in the beginning of the second half because we were over confident because we were up by so much at half time. The other team took advantage of that,” Smith said.
Smith came off the bench with high energy intercepting and scoring with two minutes into the half. Two more goals put Paly in a 7 goal lead.
The Chargers managed to come back with two goals off of scrambles.
Paly finished the game strong with four goals in 7 minutes, two from Nina Kelty (’13) and one from Emy Kelty (’12).
Charlotte Biffar (’13) had a hat trick for the vikings, adding three goals.
The final score was 14-5, with a solid 8-1-0 record in the league.
“I think today was an especially good win, because we have been playing some teams that our coach really wants us to be [winning]. Today we finally got the score board to reflect how we played on the field,” defense Gracie Cain (‘11) said.
Lady Vikings look forward to a game against Saratoga, tomorrow, April 29.
