Sarah Miller (’12) was the lone Paly gymnast to qualify and compete in the Central Coast Section championships yesterday, placing 30th out 71 athletes with an all-around score of 33.250. First place went to Kelsey Celaya of St. Francis, who scored a 38.025.
The team’s other varsity gymnast, Sophie Jorasch (’12) was unable to compete due to earlier injury.
Since the team will be graduating two seniors, both of its captains and its entire varsity team, strong JV gymnasts Michelle Yin (’13), Shiri Arnon (’14), Andrea Clerici (’14) and Sharissa Holopanien (’15) will need to pick up the reins next year. The JV squad has grown immensely, doubling its size in the past two years and securing its first team win a meet against Los Altos in April. In addition, with many girls who do not train year-round in the gym, Paly JV took a strong second place finish at the 2012 SCVAL championships.
