Paly Track Teams Defeat Milpitas
The Paly varsity track teams won their first home meet against Milpitas on Thursday, March 10. The wind played a huge factor in the meet, causing mainly distance athletes to not perform at their best, which was to be expected.
“It was unfortunate that we had so many of our distance runners drop out of races, but it was unavoidable because of the wind,” junior Kelvin Moresi said.
Junior Franklin Tutor won both the 100m and 200m races, getting a personal record in both events, running an 11.59 in the 100m and a 24.20 in the 200m.
Junior Hillary Studdert finished the 400m with a season record, winning the event with a time of 1:00.41, while junior Finley Craig finished the 800m with a personal record with a time of 2:38.83 also winning her event.
Paly boys swept the top four in the 400m, with senior John Bard running a 52.26, another personal record.
The Paly girls showed their dominance in the jumping events, winning in the triple jump, high jump, and long jump. Along with their success in jumping, Terra Majors put Paly on top in both throwing events, winning the discus and shot put.
“Despite the wind, we were still able to get some great finishes and take the win over Milpitas,” junior Cameron Phillips said.
Paly hopes to continue its streak into their next head-to-head meet on Tuesday, March 15, away against Lynbrook High School.
