Paly baseball took down Homestead 7-6 on Friday afternoon.

This was the Vikings’ second come-from-behind 7-6 victory against Homestead in the last three days.

“Yesterday was a huge team win that took every guy to pull it out,” junior shortstop Charlie Bates said.

The winning pitcher for the Vikes was junior Nate Donaker, who turned in a nice outing on the mound, throwing 3.2IP with only two hits allowed and no earned runs.

Donaker’s production on Friday was not just on the rubber, however. He amassed a hit, two RBI, and a run scored at the plate.

Other notable contributors included senior Russ Filter, who knocked in a run while picking up one of his three hits on the day. Juniors Zach Thom and Ethan Riley had a pair of hits, with sophomore Kanghee Cho joining them with two hits of his own.

“We had a lot of injuries and I was super proud of the guys who were able to step up and get the job done,” Bates said.

Senior outfielder Sal Meehan endured one of the aforementioned injuries, leaving the game early in discomfort.

It has been an injury-riddled season thus far for the Vikings, forcing many to step up to fill shoes. Underclassmen like sophomore Isaiah Walker have seen an increased role compared to underclassmen in years prior, and have taken advantage of this opportunity. Walker doubled and scored a run in Friday’s contest.

The Vikes enter the home stretch of the season, looking to make a playoff push and begin racking up the wins.
