Boys Volleyball Season Recap
May 21, 2023
The Paly boys volleyball team had a successful season, ending strong with a 14-15 record, and a 7-8 league record.
With the team missing some key players, they had some doubts entering the new season. However, despite their concerns, they started strong with back-to-back wins and placed in second place at the Wilcox boy’s volleyball tournament.
“I’m incredibly proud of how we played this season. We entered the season with two empty starting positions, and our guys really stepped it up,” sophomore Julian Hong said.
Toward the middle of the season, they noticed a pattern of losses. The team feels as though this decline in their victories helped them to improve their mentality for the rest of the season.
“This resulted in us re-focusing our game to perform under high-pressure situations,” junior Matteo Lisi said.
After having faced a tough loss against Saratoga on the Paly team’s senior night, they decided it was necessary to step up their game even more. With this new mindset and readiness to win, the team ended the season strong and had some impressive results.
“The Game with Saratoga, the day after our senior night, showed our ableness to bounce back from a tough loss, and crash the Saratoga senior night with a five-set reverse week victory over Saratoga,” Lisi said.
Although there were some ups and downs throughout the season, the team is confident in the outcomes and is ready to improve for next year.
“This was a great season, we had some epic wins and some epic losses,” junior Cal Currier said.
“We were just a couple points from making CCS and I’m sure we can run it back next year,” Hong said.
Despite the inconsistent wins and losses, the team still feels as though they improved tremendously in both their mental and physical skills.
Many players accomplished great things this season, with four having been nominated for league, including Calvin Wong, Nathaniel Ibuyan, Arun Tamura, and Cal Currier.
