The Paly boys lacrosse varsity team has officially kicked off their season, and are looking forward to a fiery season to continue their success from last season. In the 2024 season, the team finished 2nd in league, with a 15-6 overall record. Despite losing valuable seniors and sophomore star, the team is looking strong.
The team has been training since the summer leading up to the season with team conditioning and practices, and are prepared to take on competitive opponents..
“We weren’t allowed to have any contact with our coach over the summer, so we held player-run practices once a week leading up to the season,” junior Malcolm Phillips said.
In their first match, they took a tough blow to Bellarmine College Preparatory, but have put up multiple impressive wins since then to start off with a bang.
“So far this season, we’ve had success in our league games, including beating Los Gatos after coming up just two goals short in the CCS championship last year,” Phillips said. “We’ve also held our own against some of the top teams in the Bay Area.”
The team also has put a lot of emphasis on team bonding this season in order to not only be great individual players, but create strong team chemistry that transfers onto the field.
“It was really about coming together after player-led practices or at team dinners, getting to know each other better so that we could build trust both on and off the field,” Phillips said.
Through keeping up this energy and bonding as a team, the team has high hopes for the season. The team will face Menlo-Atherton on Friday, March 28th in their next league game.
“One major goal this season is to win our league, advance to CCS, and win there as well,” Phillips said. “Beating MA is also a big priority, as we’ve had a rivalry with them for years.”
