After a big win against Saratoga, Paly badminton was able to keep the momentum and beat Wilcox 20-10 at home last Tuesday.
The Vikings lost their previous matchup against Wilcox 19-11 due to roster issues. This time the Vikings struck back with full force.
“I think we did pretty well in the game, the win was to be expected because Wilcox isn’t that good compared to the other teams,” sophomore Nathan Chang said.
The Vikings were coming off a 4 game losing streak before winning two in a row. During their losing streak, players feared that they would finish at the bottom of the league. In high school badminton, you will get relegated if your team finishes last in your league.
“Relegation is when your team doesn’t win enough games and you get put into a lower league; this is their way of keeping the leagues balanced,” sophomore Gary Yan said. “We thought we were going to get relegated, but after a lot of hard work and determination by the team, we probably won’t get relegated.”
The top team in the league also gets promoted to a higher league. In the past, Paly badminton has been caught in between the two leagues because they kept getting first in the lower league and last in the higher league leon bet.
The Vikings lost their next game against Monta Vista, but hope to bounce back during senior night against Lynbrook.
