The Palo Alto High School girl’s basketball team defeated Milpitas High School on Tuesday Feb. 14 with a score of 64-41. The Lady Vikes are still tied for first place in their league with crosstown rival Gunn High School and Wilcox High School.
The Vikings honored their senior players with a Senior Night ceremony before the game. Seniors were welcomed onto the court and received floral bouquets, a candy necklace and had pictures taken with their family as their achievements for their high school careers were read out. The Lady Vikes also sported new pink tie-dyed warm-up shirts to match the pink and white streamers decorating the gym for Valentine’s Day. Candy necklaces were also given to the five Milpitas seniors.
Seniors Jennifer Valdez, Emilee Osagiede, Lindsay Black, Sam Borsos and Paige Borsos started for the Lady Vikes. Makaela Cooper, the sixth senior on the team, did not start due to an injury she sustained during practice, but played for a few minutes during the first half. Stephanie Allen (‘13) scored 18 points for the Lady Vikes, the most of any Paly player. Black was second with 15, followed by Osagiede with 10. Black concentrated on defense for the game while Osagiede made many successful drives up the court. By the third quarter, Palo Alto lead Milpitas 51-28.
The Lady Vikes will play their last league game away at Lynbrook High School on Friday Feb. 17 at 6:15.
