Paly girls soccer won their first preseason game 6-0 this wednesday against Evergreen Valley.

Evergreen Valley kicked off the game and started towards their attacking end of the field. With a missed shot by Evergreen, Heidi Moeser (‘16) won back ball for Paly and started towards Evergreens goal.

Shortly after, Katie Foug (‘15) passed ball to Talia Malchin (‘17) who did a give and go with her and passed it back to Foug, who then crossed it in to Aoi Sugihara (‘15) who missed a shot just off the left post.

Foug won ball in the midfield from Evergreen and passed it to Jacey Pederson (‘16), who dribbled past three defenders and shot the first goal of the game with 29 minutes left in the half, making the score 1-0 Vikings.

Sugihara received a foul for Paly and turned the ball over to Evergreen. Priscilla Bell (‘15) got a free throw after Evergreen kicked the ball out of bound, Bell threw the ball into Pederson who then passed the ball into Ansley Queen (‘16) who shot and missed the goal to end the half.

At the half the Vikings led 1-0. Paly had the kickoff at the beginning of the second half and Nika Woodfil (‘16) drove to goal and took a shot that was saved by Evergreen’s goalie.  Pederson then took a shot that went just past the goal and got turned over to Evergreen Valley. Foug won the ball back and brought it back into the attacking side for the Vikings. Woodfil then dribbled by two defenders and hit the ball into the left corner for her first goal of the game.

Paly kept up their shooting streak as Foug assisted a goal to Tess Preising (‘17) with 27 minutes left. Lena Chang (‘15) worked hard on defense for the Vikes and caused another turnover putting the ball back on the attacking end. Bell found Malchin down the line scoring the fourth goal for Paly.

“I think during the first half we were learning how to play with each other but by the second half we really had it down and we were playing much more effectively,” Woodfil said .

Paly finished the game strong with a goal by Foug and a free kick goal by Pederson.

“I couldn’t have asked for a better start. Second half they were fantastic, the girls they played really well,” Coach Kurt Develin said.

The team is looking forward to the season and has big goals for this year. They will continue to practice hard and improve on some of their skills in the future.

“We’re looking forward to having fun, winning, and hopefully making CCS and do well in it,” Chang said. “We will definitely be working a lot on shooting and moving the ball and playing well.”
