Paly girls soccer triumphs over Santa Clara Bruins 9-2

Palo Alto girls soccer defeated the Santa Clara Bruins 9-2 today at home.
The Vikings started off strong in the first half when they kicked off first and started towards their attacking end early in the half.
Nika Woodfill (‘16) takes the first shot of the game which is blocked by the Bruins’ goalie. This shot is followed by two more from the Vikings.
Woodfill makes back to back goals making the score 2-0 Vikings with twenty three minutes left in the half.
These two goals were followed by another from Jacey Pederson (‘16) who scored off a penalty kick in the the Bruins’ defensive end.
The remainder of the half is spent in the Vikings attacking end with multiple shots taken by the Vikings.
Just before halftime Pederson brought the score to 4-0 with a goal made outside the penalty box. Followed by a goal made by Katie Foug (‘15).
The Vikings ended the half leading the Bruins 5-0.
The Vikings started off the second half strong with a shot by Woodfill but it was blocked by the Bruins goalie.
The Bruins respond with a goal made off of a penalty kick with twenty eight minutes left in the second half.
The majority of the half was spent kicking the ball between teams in the middle of the field with no team having possession for long.
The Vikings at the end of the half made four back to back goals one made my Heidi Moeser (‘16), one by Foug and Natalie Maloney (‘17) and finally the last one my Alison Lu (‘16).
The Vikings made the score 9-1 with five minutes to go in the half.
The Bruins returned these goals with the final goal of the game making the final score 9-2 Vikings.
Woodfill expressed her satisfaction with her team’s performance on the field today.
“I think we played really well today. We finished our shots and it was just a really complete game. We connected passes really well which is definitely something we struggle with in the the last game. We also defended really well,” Woodfill said.
The Vikings next game is next Tuesday against Mountain View.
