Paly wrestling defeated Mountain View tonight with a score of 47-33, winning their first home meet of the season. Although down at the beginning by technicalities, they did not let that faze them as they started building a lead that Mountain View was never able to take back.

Mountain View started off with a higher score at the beginning of the meet with 12 free points awarded to them due to injuries on the Paly side. However, Paly’s first five wrestlers quickly responded with pins, as Mountain View’s score quickly decreased, as Paly was up 30-12.

After that, Paly took some tough losses in the higher weight classes, going back and forth with Mountain View on points, but Senior Ian Johnson delivered the icing on the cake by pinning his opponent within the first minute of his match, giving Paly a 14-point lead to end the match.

“I thought as a whole, we did pretty good tonight,” coach Jonathan Kessler said. “We gambled a little bit moving around some weight classes but I’m happy with the performance shown.”

Wrestling competes again on the 18th, going into a meet against Wilcox and Lynbrook.
