This past weekend, the Paly wrestling team traveled to Watsonville to compete in the CCS championships.
The wrestling team has been working towards CCS championships since the first meet of the season. The vikings came into the tournament hoping to carry the momentum from their recent endeavors.
The team did extremely well, with an overall 3rd place finish in the section. Senior Ej Rudolf-Harris, sophomore James Otuhiva, and freshman Brian Miller qualified for state, all with 3rd place finishes in their weight-class.
“CCS went well, it was really exciting to see everyone compete,” junior Turner McFarland said.
Boys wrestling made Paly history by finishing the highest they have ever finished at a CCS tournament by placing 3rd in the section. Although the entire team made history, Miller made history on his own. Miller is the first freshman in Paly history to qualify for state.
“Being the first freshman in Paly history to qualify for state means a lot, but I’m going into this week with the mindset that the job’s not finished and theres still more work to do,” Miller said.
