Paly boys basketball played their opening home game on Tuesday night against Sequoia. After taking a strong win against Pacific Grove, the Vikings started the season strong with a win and hoped to carry their good play into the first home game.
Ultimately, the Vikings exceeded expectations as they dominated Sequoia 67-28, making their overall record for the season 2-0.
“I thought we played very hard throughout the game and competed even when we were up a lot,” junior Gavin Haase said. “I was very impressed with our bench, there were many players stepping up and playing hard in the minutes they were given.”
Paly came into the game with the odds in their favor, as last season Sequoia finished 9th in the Peninsula South league, whereas Paly finished 2nd in the De Anza league. Additionally, in last year’s season, Paly beat Sequoia handily.
The Vikings dominated from the start of the game, only letting in 8 points in the first half, while scoring 35 in the first half themselves.
“I feel like our team was able to play unselfishly and share the ball which helped us run up the score, [and] our defense also worked hard which forced a lot of turnovers,” junior Jai Wadhwani said.
The Vikings’ next game of the season is against the Overfelt Royals.
