The Paly boys played their first game of the league season against Wilcox on January 3rd, another strong contending team with an average of 44.8 points per game.
The Vikings’ wishes to start off league play strong were fulfilled, as ultimately they won with a tight score of 70-60. The team hopes to carry on their winning streak into the future, as they take on cross-town rivals Gunn High School.
“Overall it was a great start to the season,” junior Nicholas Feitzinger said. “Hopefully we can carry the momentum into the rest of the league season, especially with our two games against Gunn High School.”
The Viking’s strength in their game was their team play, as demonstrated across the season in their wins.
Another strong attribute of Paly’s team seemed to be their strong defense, which is what players felt helped them secure the win.
“I felt like we shot the ball and played unselfishly well, as well as working hard on defense which is ultimately what won us the game,” junior Jai Wadhwani said.
Additionally, players such as Aiden Hangebrauck employed a physical style of play to help gain an edge on the court and pull out the win, an important factor in such a high-scoring game.
Overall, the Vikings started off league play with an impressive win, and are looking good moving forward in the season.
