Paly defeated the crosstown rival Gunn 77-39 on Saturday, February first. This was the second time the two teams faced off this year, with Paly also winning the first match up three weeks before.
The Vikings have now extended their winning streak to nine games now, and have been thriving off of huge performances from senior Jorell Clark, who leads the team in scoring.
Clark tallied 32 points in the win, with 26 of those being in the first half, and it’s safe to say that he has had Gunn’s number this year.
Senior Gavin Haase heavily contributed to Clarks astonishing game, leading the team in assists while also adding another 12 points.
“We had a little chip on our shoulder from last year, since we lost at home,” sophomore Justin Fung said, “we knew that they could not match our intensity or physicality and we pulled away as the game went on.”
Fung is one of two sophomores on varsity, and earned the nod into the starting lineup earlier this season. It’s safe to say that Fung is continuing to improve as the season progresses, as he is leading the team with 2 steals per game.
“We felt like the game was over after the second quarter” junior Jake Wang said, “I liked how we got into an offensive rhythm off the jump.”
Along with Fung, Wang has displayed impressive defensive skills this season, and had another dominant defensive outing against Gunn.
Looking ahead, the Vikings are still at the top of the Santa Clara Valley – De Anza League, with a league record of 7-0, with a one game lead over Milpitas (7-1).
Dating back to last season, Paly has now won 10 straight home games, while strengthening their record to 17-2 this season.
