Paly boys’ soccer (4-0) defeated Mountain View high school in their fourth league game of the season. The Vikings sealed the victory with a final score of 5-0.

During the start of the first half, the game was even as each team got the same amount of chances to score. However, the quickly turned in the Viking’s favor as their offense scored goals on almost every chance they had.

With goals scored by Dami Bolarinwa (‘16) and Max Hallberg (‘16) among other players, the Vikings took a comfortable lead of 4-0.

“We finished our chances. Usually we do not score as many goals in a game but we took care of our shots and put the ball at the back of the net,” Reuben Kramer (‘16) said.

Coach Briggs was especially pleased by the Vikings’ performance since it was their best game since the team got back from break.

“We had chances to score, we took them and we were successful,” Briggs said. “We haven’t done that too much lately since we came back from vacation so we are finishing better and that was a big thing.”

Despite the great game, Briggs still saw some room for improvement.

“Sometimes we have a tendency to keep going down the same flank over and over,” Briggs said. “We are starting to switch the ball a little bit more but we can do it even better. We did some but not as much as we should have. We sometimes try to push it right through the middle where the keeper is but we are much more successful when we go on the outside a little bit and try to cross it.”

Since the team had such a big lead, Briggs made his players play in unusual positions.

“Get player to play in a position they never play usually,” Briggs said. “The more you play different kind of positions, the more you understand those positions. As a defensive player you start playing forward and start seeing what the forwards are doing and it gives you a better idea at how to play better defense.”

A last minute goal by Ariya Momeny allowed the Viking to leave the pitch on a final score of 5-0.

The team will play again Wednesday, January 20th, at Fremont High School. Kickoff at 3:00 p.m.
