On December 26th 2013, after ending his season with 1718 yards on 131 catches along with 27 touchdowns, Paly graduate and current Fresno State Bulldog Davante Adams (’11) finally announced his eligibility for the 2014 National Football League (NFL) Draft.
Adams, requested information from the NFL draft advisory board before making his initial decision to leave for the NFL.
During his time in Palo Alto, Adams helped the Vikings to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) state championship title over the Centennial Huskies, 15-13. His senior season, Adams recorded 1095 yards on 63 catches for 11 touchdowns, averaging 17.37 yards per catch. He was also named the 2010 SCVAL Offensive Most Valuable Player.
Helping the Bulldog’s to a top 25 ranking and to the Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl against the University of Southern California, Adam’s presence along with that of Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr attributed to the team’s high caliber offense that ranked No. 1 of FBS teams in total passing yards (also recieving) in the regular season.
Over the past two seasons, the 6-foot-2, 216 pound Adams led the Bulldogs and the nation with over 3,000 receiving yards and 38 total touchdowns.
In 2012, Adams was named the Mountain West Conference (MWC) Freshman of the Year, an All-American Honorable Mention by Sports Illustrated magazine and as a unanimous Freshman All-American by CBSSports.com.
This year, Adams recorded over 400 more yards than his impressive 2012 campaign along with 10 extra touchdowns. He was selected on to the preseason watch-list for the Biletnikoff award and as one of 12 Players to Watch in 2013 by the Touchdown Club of Columbus. Although he was left off many of the postseason All-American teams recognized by the NCAA, Adams was selected on to SBNation.com’s first team and CBSSports.com’s third team All-America teams.
Adams comes into the draft ranked as the 10th best wide receiver prospect according to Rob Rang of CBSSports.com and is projected to be taken in the 2nd round. Adams will be the third Paly football graduate in the last decade to declare for the NFL Draft after Drew Hodgdon (’00) and Fred Koloto (’07).
