Former Palo Alto student Jeremy Lin (‘06) and the Knicks suffered their first loss in almost two weeks, 85-89 at the hands of the New Orleans Hornets.
Turnovers proved to be crucial as the Knicks gave the ball away 21 times throughout the game and dug an early hole for themselves. The loss is Lin’s first since taking over the point guard position for the Knicks.
With full fledged “Linsanity” going around, the former state Champ will reunite with some of his former teammates, and high school coach Peter Diepenbrock.
“We’ve always stayed in touch,” Diepenbrock said. “It was always a very close knit team.”
The teammates, as well as Diepenbrock will attend Sunday’s game versus the defending champions, the Dallas Mavericks.
In a recent radio call, Dipenbrock received a suprising call from movie producer Spike Lee, who agreed to wear Lin’s former high school jersey. Lee is set wear the jersey, Sunday morning when the Knicks take on the Mavericks.
Over the past two weeks, Lin’s numbers include 197 points and 69 assists in eight games. Among the eight games, Lin has had two double doubles, against the Washington Wizards and Sacramento Kings, as well as seven, twenty-point games.
“He just plays with an incredible confidence and determination which he also had in high school,” Diepenbrock said.
Lin also had his first game winner on Valentines day, nailing a three over Toronto’s Jose Calderon with half a second to play.
When asked about his feelings over Lin’s sudden success, Diepenbrock simply replied, “Just incredibly proud.”
