The Paly girls’ varsity tennis team (3-3) lost 4-3 to Lynbrook in a close match on Thursday, Sept. 27 under the heat of the sun.
Aashli Budhiraja (’14) got one of the team’s three wins as she struggled through the first set 6-4 but picked up her confidence and breezed through the second set 6-1.
“Aashli seemed pretty focused” Hollie Kool (’14) said. Many of Budhiraja’s teammates could sense her confidence and determination through her long points and big serves. Her forehand was unstoppable and tough for her opponent to reign in.
Number two singles player Felicia Wang (’14) also breezed through her match, winning 6-2, 6-2.
Kelsey Wang (’16) and Kool, the third doubles team, felt confident in their performance, as they were the team’s first win of the day.
Despite wins from the first and second singles players and third doubles, the Lady Vikes fell short of a victory against a team they had faced in previous matches.
“So far, we haven’t had a solid lineup even though we are halfway through the season.” Kool said. “Once we get used to a certain lineup I think we will be a lot stronger.”
Kool went on to add that she and her teammates are looking forward to their next match at Monta Vista on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
