Paly’s varsity baseball team battled against Homestead High School on Wednesday, winning 4-2.
Third baseman Bowen Gerould (’14), drove in a run and made several nice plays for the Vikings.
Jack Cleasby (’14) narrowly dodged the catcher while sliding into home base to give the Vikes a 2-1 lead. Pitcher Rohit Ramkumar (’13) closed out the game after the 4th inning, not allowing any more RBI’s.
The players were pleased with their win over Homestead.
“We didn’t have any errors, so that was good,” Rowan Thompson (’13) said. “Defense played really well, any time you can go through a game and not have any errors, that’s very good. It propels your offense.”
This year the Vikes lack big hitters but make up for it in teamwork and great defense.
“I don’t think our team is necessarily a power team, we’re more of the team that does the job when they get a guy in scoring position, so we’re not the guys who’re gonna blast it out of there but we’ll win by scrapping and being a great team and working together,” Gerould said.
The team looks forward to the season, with hopes of perfecting their game.
“I’m looking forward to winning league title and I think we got off on the right foot today.” Thomson said.
The team plays Homestead again on Friday.
