The boys’ tennis team defeated Harker 14-4 in the first round of CCS today. As of last year, the tournament’s format changed so that the top three singles players will play three sets – one against each of the other team’s singles players. The doubles teams also play a total of three sets.
Paly’s singles players contributed many sets to the team’s overall score with strong performances by Nicky Hu (‘12) 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 as well as George He (‘14) and Austin Leung (‘14) 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 and 0-6, 6-1, 6-1 respectively

Doubles players Mason Haverstock (‘13)/Dar Shavit (‘12) also pulled out three wins for the Vikings.
Haverstock enjoys playing with this format because it requires a different mindset.

“You refocus yourself at the beginning of each match,” Haverstock said.
Haverstock was proud of his team’s performance today but hopes that the team will focus more against Bellarmine High School in the next round of CCS.
The Vikings will play Bellarmine in the second round this Friday.
