Vikings lacrosse squeezed by the Mountain View Spartans in a 9-8 win on Monday.
Despite their high energy, the first half was a bit slow. Logan Mendenhall (’13) scored the first and only goal of the half. The Spartans then went on to lead 4-1.
From the joint effort of Walker Mees (’13), Skyler Anderson (’13), and Tully McCallister (’14), the team came back to a 5-6 trail in the second half.
Then with three goals by Jonny Glazier (’13) and one from Jordan Gans (’14) , the boys gained and kept the lead. Despite scoring two goals in the last few minutes, the Spartans were unable get back their once prominent lead. The game ended with a 9-8 win for the Vikes.
The teams played a tough, physical game, but the Vikes thought their play improved as the game went on.
“We definitely started a little bit slow but we came out shooting in the second half and I’m really glad we held onto the win. It was a pretty physical game, it got a little chippy out there, but uh, I think it worked out better for us, we tend to play well in those circumstances,” said defenseman Tyler Valenti (’13).
The Vikings will play Los Gatos this Thursday at 4, away.
