Paly girls soccer played against Homestead on Monday at Paly and the game ended in a tie of 3-3.
The weather was not ideal as it was pouring rain and a bitter January afternoon but the conditions did not stop the team from giving their best effort in the game.
Another challenge was injuries. “The majority of the starting players were hurt which didn’t help,” sophomore Reyes Aronson said. “We played okay but we weren’t fully prepared for the game.”
The rain was not only cold, but also made the field and ball more slippery which provided for even more game time hardships.
“I think it’s hard to be super technical in those conditions,” junior Nava Shwarzbach said. “Even so, the team did an excellent job of giving their 100% effort.”
The game was looking hopeful as Paly remained ahead on the scoreboard until the final few minutes when Homestead came back and tied up the game.
“It felt pretty disappointing in the end for a lot of us because we thought we were going to win until they scored in the last couple of minutes,” junior Ella Hwang said.
Even though it was a tie, the team truly felt that they had deserved the win. Two of Homestead’s goals were scored as a result of a free kick from fouls called on Paly.
“We felt pretty unlucky because the referee calls could have gone either way,” junior Ella Hwang said.
Even though they did not win, the team continues to remain hopeful about the rest of the season.
“I’m definitely looking forward to the rematch in drier conditions,” junior Nava Shwarzbach said.
