Paly girls swim and dive have had an excellent championship season. Following an undefeated league season, they swept the SCVAL league meet, defeating second place Los Gatos 555-316. This is the third straight year of victories in SCVAL for the team.
Coach Danny Dye feels the team’s strength in leagues came from a variety of sources.
“The league went better than anticipated,” Dye said. “We had a great influx of talented freshman, along with great senior leadership and a group of upper class athletes that set great examples for dedication to hard work and team.”
In the CCS meet, which occurred over the past weekend, the team improved their standing from placing third last year to taking second place. The winners, St. Ignatius, were defending their title from the past two years.
Paly lost to them St. Ignatius 257-194, and beat Archbishop Mitty for second place by a mere two points. One anomaly for this year is that almost every single athlete on the girls team, with only seven of the nearly 20 members on the roster not making it to the highly selective meet. Dye sees this as a large improvement.
“We increased the amount of CCS and State individual qualifiers,” he said. “And qualified all 3 relays to states.”
As Dye mentions, the girl’s season isn’t over yet; the teams of three different relays will be attending the state meet in Clovis this week.
