Prior to last season’s success, the Paly field hockey team advanced to a newer and higher division for the 2024 season. Despite the extreme competition the team faced, the Vikings were still able to finish the season 6th in league and with a record of 4-10. In addition to this, they finished with an overall record of 6-11-1.
“The highlight of the season would be making CCS for the first time in program history,” Sophomore Ella Renazco-Sperling said. “It was really exciting and showed that our hard work paid off.”
Senior night was also a special event in honoring players who have been dedicated to the game, team, and improvement for up to four years now. The Vikings graduated seven seniors; Lucy Griffin, Caroline Groden, Polina Van Hulsen, Izzy Carlsen, Lava Serohi, Abby Wolfe, and Alyssa Lin.
Even though the Vikings record reflects one that a team would be unhappy with, the girls playing in a new and more difficult league argued that the season reflected progress in both team chemistry and skill. Each game held new learning opportunities and experience for younger and older players alike. And as the season went on the teams practice paid off, scores became closer, defense tighter, and offense more methodical.
“Our season was a tricky start with a new coach this year and a lot of changes in the people we had on the team,” Senior Izzy Carlsen said. “ But by the end of the season, we truly got better and I’m proud of all my teammates this season.”
