Last Friday, January 17th, the varsity girls soccer team faced off against their esteemed rivals at Gunn High School. The girls faced an exciting match, ultimately taking the win, with a 2-1 score.
“The energy going into the game was super exciting because Gunn is our rival school,” sophomore Devin Teper said.
According to Teper, the rivalry is not just a school tradition, it is personal too, as many players on both teams know each other outside of the sport, “The energy was high and exciting because I knew some of the girls at Gunn,” Teper said.
The outcome of the game was 2-1, with one goal scored by sophomore, Nava Schwarzbach, and another scored by senior, Polina Van Hulsen.
“Shoutout to Nava, she had a good finish, and so did Polina,” Teper said.
Although the team pulled out the win, Teper explained that the team could work on keeping up their energy, and always putting in maximum effort, even when they are ahead.
Despite these challenges, the team captains, senior Ella Hwang, and senior Polina Van Hulsen helped the team get the victory, “I think our captains help us a lot, and they guide us through challenges,” Teper said.
This was the first time the team has played Gunn this season, and they will play once more on February 7th at Gunn High School.
Altogether, the Vikings with an overall 2-3-2 record pulled off an impressive win against the Titans with an overall 5-4-2 record, and defended the name and rivalry of Paly.
