Overall this year’s girls varsity team had a strong season. The girls were semifinalists in this year’s Central Coast Section (CCS) tournament, and across both the varsity and junior varsity seasons, the Vikings had a record of six wins, six ties, and three losses.
Paly girl’s varsity placed third in the De-Anza league overall, an improvement over last year’s previous spot in fourth place. Additionally, last year the girls only made it to the first round of CCS before elimination. With this year’s placement, improvement was shown and felt by players.
“The season has had its ups and downs, for sure,” junior Reyes Aronson said. “But overall, I’m very proud of our team’s improvement.”
Senior Kaitlin Lowry, a DI recruited player (to Pepperdine University), added her sentiments about the 2025 season. “It [the season] went pretty well, for the most part, even though we didn’t do too well overall, I think we did well in other aspects,” Lowry said. “For example, we had a great community which made the season really fun.”
Head varsity coach Jeremy Romero worked hard to ensure that the girls could have a chance at getting further than last year. Junior Areet Rao recalled intense training in the days leading up to important matches. “When it looked like we could qualify for CCS, our coach had us running sprints almost every practice to get us in shape for the possibility of a big win,” Rao said.
The girls, although pleased with their progress, also noted that the team could have aimed a little higher, and even won in CCS if they had been more motivated on the field. “I would say that we need to be more focused and driven because a lot of times [when] we would lose games, it was because we weren’t locked in enough,” Lowry said. “Or we just didn’t care. Like sometimes people just wouldn’t care.”
With that said, the girls were very proud of certain aspects of their performance, such as their defense and midfield. “They [our defenders] are the reason we had so many shutouts,” Aronson said. “Without our strong defense line and midfielders, I doubt we could have gone as far as we did.”
Altogether, the girls believed they had a strong and impressive season, showing consistent improvement across the board. With their heads held high and momentum on their side, Paly girls’ varsity soccer is poised for an even more promising performance next season. “I’m excited for the next season I have high hopes!” Reyes Aronson (26’)
