The Boy’s Wrestling Season came to an end Sunday after their final State tournament in Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield, where each Paly wrestler was ultimately knocked out during their individual matchups.
The team had an extremely successful season, ending with a 4-2 record in dual meets (games against one other school) and tying three ways for second place in league, an impressive set of results that bodes well for the team’s future.
“Towards the end, our team became a cohesive machine working together for the better of the team,” Atticus Finch (‘26) said. “When one man fell short, another was ready to fill in the gaps and keep the team strong together. While we didn’t make it as far as we wanted to, we competed extremely well and are always striving to get better.”
The team’s standout season continued as they headed into CCS, where they performed exceptionally well during the state meet. Brian Miller (‘27) had an excellent tournament, placing in the top 32 in California for his weight class.
“I went into this year with more knowledge than in past years,” Miller said. “I didn’t necessarily get lucky, but I worked really hard with the team and was able to come out with a pretty successful tournament and season.”
Although unable to claim victory at the state tournament, the season overall leaves athletes with a good feeling. Senior Tazman Johnson, who is one of four outgoing graduates from the team, was appreciative of the energy that each member contributed all season long.
“I’m very proud of all the hard work and commitment that the team has shown this season,” Johnson said. “We did well as a team this year and I can say that next year the team is hungry for more.”
