CCS-Bound Boys Soccer Falls to Santa Clara 1-0
Paly boys varsity soccer lost 1-0 in a tough match against Santa Clara last Wednesday night. Despite creating several scoring chances, the Vikings were unable to come back from a 1-0 halftime deficit.
“It was a messy start to the game,” senior Tony Jeon said. “We still held a fighting effort in hopes of a comeback until the final whistle.”
While they were not able to come out on top, the team is not viewing this game as a major setback. Having already clinched a CCS playoff berth, they were entering competition with SCVAL number one seed Santa Clara with a small chance of clinching the league title. For this to have happened, though, the Vikings would have had to win their final three regular season games while Santa Clara would have to lose their final two. It was difficult for them to see Santa Clara clinch the league title on Paly’s home field, but the team ultimately has its sights set on bigger things.
“ We were quick to forget this loss to stay focused on our upcoming CCS journey,” Jeon said.
CCS success may be the current focus, but the boys are not forgetting this potential emerging rivalry with Santa Clara and the future battles it may bring. According to senior Noah Adesnik, a CCS matchup with them may be in the cards.
“Hopefully we will have the chance of knocking them out in the future,” he said.
