Paly baseball claimed a win over Mountain View 15-4 on Tuesday, May 12.
Early on, the Vikings seized momentum and didn’t look back. Through three innings, the Vikings held a one-run advantage, then Paly’s offense started clicking. The Vikings had a huge 14-run fourth inning, which really widened the gap. One hit led to another, and the deficit became too large for Mountain View to launch a comeback.
“We came into the game focused and ready to compete,” junior Rex Martin said. “Once our offense got going in the fourth inning, everyone played off that energy, and we were able to keep our lead until the end of the game.”
Paly ended the match with a dozen hits and shut out Mountain View until the fifth inning. Even after the opponents put up four runs of their own, the Vikings maintained composure.
“Even when they scored towards the end of the game, we didn’t let it change how we were playing,” Martin said. “We stayed focused and kept making plays to finish the game strong.”
This was Paly’s second-to-last league game, and the Vikings had already secured the second-place spot in the De Anza league, no matter the outcome of tomorrow’s game against Los Gatos. With the CCS tournament imminent, the Vikings look to play with the same energy they showed against Mountain View today, in hopes of winning a Section Championship.
