As the fall season inches nearer and nearer, the Paly boys’ water polo team continues to work hard in preparation for another long season. The Vikings are coming off an impressive 2014 season as the team won its tournament and tied for first in leagues.

The team is back after one senior lost and allowing seven juniors to step up,

“Fans have a lot to look out for this year as our seniors continue to be a dominate force and our younger guys keep stepping up,” team captain Kevin Bowers (‘16) said.

With key players Andrew Jozefov (‘17), Winston Rosati (‘16), Justyn Cheung (‘16), and Bowers returning, the team is hoping to perform even better than before.

“We want to win leagues and get top three in the Central Coast Section (CCS,)” Team captain Rosati said.

The Vikings, while maintaining  most of their old team, faces a different challenge: competing without a home pool.

“It’s been different, the transportations have been an issue,” Bowers said, “The team is still working hard though and we’re just doing what we need to do.”

Paly is now going to have to play its games at Gunn High School and practice at Rengstorff due to gym construction that’ll last throughout the season. The team has also been practicing a lot and doing as much as they can this offseason to set themselves up for success in the upcoming 2015 season.

The Vikings have played well in its offseason non-league scrimmages against other California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) teams.

“So far we’ve played [Archbishop] Mitty, Jesuit, and Davis and hold a 2-1 record in those games respectively,” Bowers said.

The team also looks to battle back against Palys rival, Gunn High School, who it lost to both times in league last year in a couple of tightly contested games.

“They’re always a good team to beat and [we] looking forward to playing them this year,” Bowers said.

The Boys water polo team kicks off its season with its first game on Tuesday, September 15th against Wilcox at Gunn.
