Palo Alto Girls Basketball faced off against the Los Altos Eagles Friday night. The Vikings won 69-31.

Coach Scott Peters was pleased with the team’s performance.

“I’m very happy with the way we played. We played hard and with passion and there was a sense of joy when we played.”

The Vikings started strong by taking a 9-3 lead to start the game, and later extended that lead to 17-7. Los Altos eventually closed the gap, and the score was 17-15 at the end of the first quarter.

Paly came out strong again in the second quarter, going on a 6-0 run to make the score 23-15. The Vikings continued to score and play good defense, and finished the half up 31-18.

Los Altos started fast in the second half and quickly cut the Vikings lead to 31-25. After a slow start Paly got going and went on a huge run, and finished the third quarter up 49-25.

Paly continued to dominate in the fourth quarter by taking a 57-29 lead. The Vikings closed out the game strong and won 69-31 after outscoring Los Altos 52-16 after the first quarter.

Carly Leong (‘18) was happy to see the team’s hard work in practice paying off.

“It feels great because we’ve been losing lately and we just clicked this game. We definitely had harder practices. We sprinted more, we worked more on our offense and defense.”

Next up, the Vikings face the Mountain View Spartans away on Tuesday, January 19, at 7:00pm.
