On December 12th, Palo Alto High School and Pioneer High School was battling in the trenches. Both teams had many opportunities to score, but for each possession, one little mishap made it so it was nearly impossible for both teams to score.
Throughout the match, there was 10 corner kicks that were attempted, and it was an even split for the number of attempts both teams had. (5 for each) Both teams were unable to finish on any of the tries, but that doesn’t give a negative outlook on the offenses, but a positive outlook on the goalies.
When tested, both goalies were able to do their job and block many shots. Occasionally, it would be a one-on-one with either the Palo Altos goalie, or Pioneers. They had always prevailed. Now, I said occasionally because throughout the match, there was an even amount of friction between both teams. It was rare that either team got within 10 yards of the goalies because of how evenly matched the players had been.
Sophomore Brian Chung says, “the way our defense is, it helps set the tone for the rest of the season.”
Palo Alto now has a break between games, and they will play at home vs Saratoga on January 3rd.
