After starting off hot with a two-score lead, the Vikings allowed 31 unanswered points, losing their first three games of the season.
“After going up 14-0, we became overconfident and lost focus,” senior Jake Wang said. “Next week, we need to work on maintaining that dominance throughout four quarters.”
San Mateo is known for their option offense, which is an offense that primarily runs the ball. What makes this offense hard to defend is its unpredictability, as the defense never knows which player will end up with the ball. Senior defensive lineman Malcom Phillips talks about the difficulties of facing that offense.
“They’ve used the same run-heavy offense for years and have perfected it, and we weren’t prepared to stop them,” Phillips said.
Though this is not the start the Vikings had hoped for, this Friday night, they play King’s Academy at home, which is another opportunity for them to get their first win.
