Paly softball is kicking off the season strong with a 9-3 win over Overfelt.
“It was the first win of the season, everyone maintained a super positive energy which helped us play great,” sophomore Sunday Ahn said.
With the addition of eight freshman bringing a variety of skill to the team, Paly is looking like a force to be reckoned with for the upcoming season. But along with these new faces, new issues arise.
The team has faced adversity when playing against teams composed mostly of upperclassmen. With such a young team, made up mostly of freshman and sophomores, it has been hard for Paly to compete at the same levels of experience as other teams.
“We played really well, and worked really hard,” freshman Juliet Frick said. “Everyone who was there stepped it up to the next level and we had lots of energy throughout the game which helped us push to win. Kira, our freshman pitcher had 13 strikeouts, and hard hits from everyone helped us rack in 9 runs. It felt really good to get our first win of the season.”
Despite the challenges of learning how to play and work as a team, Paly is looking promising as the season continues.
“I felt we as a team improved,” sophomore Kensie Pao said. “This was the 1st game we won and everybody worked together to hit and score runs, which is due to our hard work.”
