The Paly Vikings defeated Monta Vista, 19-6 on Friday, May 2nd.
This win marks another significant step towards the final stretch of a very successful season for the Vikings. Despite Monta Vista holding the lowest standing in the league, the Vikings remained focused and respectful on the field.
“Everyone on the team did a really good job keeping the energy up and making sure we were good sports,” sophomore Kira Tzeng said. “We were disciplined at the plate and didn’t go stealing a ton of extra bases.”
The game lasted five innings, with Paly putting up many runs in every stretch. The team proved to be quite flexible as players took on different roles.
“Our coach moved us around to give everyone playing time in positions they’re not used to,” Tzeng said. “It also helped ease things for the other team.”
One standout was sophomore Ana Kelleher, a recent addition to varsity after starting the season on JV.
“She did a really good job keeping her cool,” Tzeng said. “She pitched during the fourth inning, and it was her first varsity game. She pushed through.”
Though the Vikings dominated, Tzeng still believes that the team could improve on the energy coming from the bench.
“We need to make sure we’re cheering and calling out plays,” she said. “Even if we’re on the bench, we need to support our teammates.”
Looking ahead, the team is preparing for a tough matchup against Cupertino, a team they previously lost to, 6-5. Hopefully these Vikings will be able to carry their energy and team spirit into each game.
