The Paly Badminton team won their first match of the season on Saturday, April 27, at home. They won with a final score of 19-11 against Monta Vista High School. This was the Vikings Senior Night, which honored seniors Emma Edwards, Brendon Han, Grace He, Elli Lu, Kathleen Lum, Megha Madhabushi, Kieran Mann, Caleb Wong, and Chadwin Wong in the final home meeting of their high school badminton careers.

While some players felt their individual performance was not impactful to the final score, together the team, with the extra spirit of the senior celebration, was able to pull ahead of the Matadors throughout the night.

“Although I didn’t have a great result in my match, it is nice that we were able to get our first win of the season,” Wong said.

There were notable performances from the boy’s single team, as well as the girl’s doubles. This included Justin Han, Abhi Deshpande, and Andrew Li for the boy’s singles, and the duos Eva Wang and Lu, Grace He, and Lum, and Kelly Tanaka and Madabhushi for the girl’s double team.

“I would like to thank our boys singles and girls doubles as they went undefeated,” Wong said.

While the team has been struggling to find the results they want, they believe this win marked the beginning of change for the badminton team. They hope to continue winning in their upcoming meets.
