Paly lost control early and never managed to turn their play around, culminating in a 16-4 loss to the Saint Francis Lancers.
The dismantling of Paly’s team was briefly interrupted by Senior Sam Helft (25’), as he sliced through the Lancer defence, nestling the ball in the back of the net on three separate occasions.
“I was just in the zone for that first half,” Helft said. “I was seeing the holes for me to attack, and once I got a few good looks I was flowing.”
Going into halftime the Lancers held a 9-3 lead, showcasing an impressive offensive display that was too strong for Paly’s defence.
“They did everything really well,” Helft said. “Passing, shooting, finding open spaces, they were a really complete team and knew how to attack our weaknesses.”
In the second half Paly was outscored 7-1, with the Lancer offense continuing their dominance. That paired with a stalling Paly offense prevented any chance of a comeback, as without Helft’s brilliant goal scoring Paly’s attack was almost nonexistent.
“Unfortunately they’re just the better team,” Helft said. “We obviously tried hard, but they’re play is just on a different level.”
Paly looks to bounce back against Burlingame High School on Thursday.
