This past weekend, Paly Varsity wrestling competed in the Bianchini Tournament in Cupertino and the JV team competed in the Ruppel Tournament.

The team did exceptionally well, with three first-place finishes. Freshman Brian Miller (120 lbs), junior Tasman Johnson (126 lbs) and senior Nick Quiroz (144 lbs) captured first-place finishes.

“It felt good getting a first-place win at a tournament with some good competition,” Miller said. Additionally, sophomore James Otuhiva (113 lbs) placed second, Daniel Zappas (138 lbs) placed fifth and Lucas Brandt (190 lbs) placed sixth.

In all, the team finished third overall with a combined 114 points from eight wrestlers. Also, junior Alex Trounce (175 lbs) won three matches and placed first at the JV tournament.

“Seeing my teammates continuously placing at these tournaments gives me a good feeling about the rest of the season and the future of this program,” Miller said.
