Paly boys wrestling faced off against Lynbrook on Thursday, December 4th for the first meet of the 2025-26 season. In dominant fashion, the Paly Vikings took down Lynbrook 53-25 winning a majority of their matches.
The team came into the meet with confidence in their skills and were able to capitalize.
“The match was anticipated to go for our seasoned wrestlers exactly how it went,” junior and wrestling team captain Brian Miller said. We expected a dominant win and that’s what we got.”
The boys wrestling team has many new members this year who got to play in their first high school wrestling meet.
“I’m really proud of how our new freshman did,” sophomore Reed Hoffman said. “They didn’t all win their matches but they fought pretty hard and it gave them a taste of actual wrestling.”
For the Vikings, a lot of the work put in goes on behind the scenes. For Brian Miller, their success is largely attributed to the hard work they put in during the offseason.
“Our new guys are putting in work,” Miller said. Some of them had their first wrestling matches ever and even though they were having their first wrestling matches they competed and they performed.”
Even though the Paly Vikings ran away with the win in a dominant fashion, the meet showed multiple areas for improvement. For Reed Hoffman, the expectations the team has going into every meet are very high and they always have room to improve.
“While we did a little bit worse than last year, we still shut Lynbrook down,” Hoffman said. “I think all around we all did pretty well but this did show some areas we could use improvement.”
With the victory, the Vikings look forward to taking on Hollister away on Saturday, December 6th.
