The Palo Alto High School boys varsity soccer team tied Santa Clara High School 0–0 on January 29. The game was physical from the start, with both teams battling for control in the midfield and trying to create chances off quick transitions.
Paly had several strong stretches of possession and moved the ball well into the attacking half, but Santa Clara’s defense stayed compact and cleared out multiple crosses before the Vikings could get a clean look. On the other end, Paly’s back line stayed composed and limited Santa Clara’s best chances, forcing the Bruins to take lower-percentage shots.
As the match wore on, the Vikings pushed harder for a late winner, but the finishing touch never came, and the game ended scoreless.
“So just like solid all-around performance, but we could’ve done better in the final third,” senior Liam Johnson said.
Even without a goal, Paly’s defensive organization and steady energy helped secure the clean sheet and a point in league play.
