Palo Alto girls soccer continued their 4-4-1 season with a 0-3 defeat against Homestead on Thursday night. According to senior Reyes Aronson, despite their energetic warm ups and confidence before the game, the team started slow and couldn’t get their footing back after the first half.
“Once we started playing, the first half went really bad,” Aronson said. “We all were playing really slow and not very confident.”
Homestead proved to be a worthy competitor, scoring three goals in the first 25 minutes of the game. Paly lost confidence accordingly, making many mistakes in the first half and not playing to the best of their abilities.
However, although Paly lost, they did improve a lot in the second half.
“We had a good talk at halftime, and we really stepped it up and gained some much needed confidence,” Aronson said. “During the second half, everyone brought up their intensity and really wanted to play.”
The Vikings held Homestead to a three goal lead in the second half, playing defense impressively and not letting the past half get the best of them.
“After our talk we played well defensively, but unfortunately we just couldn’t score,” Aronson said.
Although Paly faced an unfortunate loss on Thursday, they are ready to step it up and they are excited for the rest of the season.
“We know we can do better than how we played against Homestead and I’m excited to see what we can accomplish in our upcoming games,” Aronson said.
Looking forward, the Vikings will face their infamous rivals, the Gunn Titans, at Gunn high school on Monday, January 26th. The Titans are 7-3-2 and will most likely be one of their toughest opponents to date.
