The girls tennis team swept Carlmont today, 7-0 in their first match of CCS. As the number 8 seed in the CCS tournament, their first-round game was destined to go well. Carlmont is one of the weaker teams in the league and the Vikes finished every game on top. After their win, the girls will advance to the next set of games in the win-or-go-home tournament this Thursday, playing against Monta Vista.“They are the number one seed, so it’s gonna be pretty hard to beat them,” sophomore Maddi Page said.
Although the undefeated Monta Vista has proven themselves to be a formidable opponent, the Vikes only lost by 1 when they played them last month.
“[Monta Vista is] probably one of the best teams in California and we came pretty close [last month]” sophomore Rachel Owens said.
The girls will have to pull all the stops to beat them and continue their vie for the CCS title.
Regardless of the outcome of the Thursday matches, there is also an individual CCS tournament that starts next week. Page (‘21) and Kamilla Wong (‘22) will be playing doubles together in the tournament and hope to bring home a trophy.
“I think we have a shot at winning it,” Page (‘21) said.
Go out and support girls tennis at their CCS quarterfinal match this Thursday 11/8 against Monta Vista in what is sure to be a nail-biting match.
