The boy’s varsity water polo took a tough loss against St. Francis 9-7. The Vikings brought an amazing effort towards the end but could not take over.

The Vikings started off slow on offense and the Lancers took advantage of that by bringing a strong start, quickly going up 5-0. The Vikings started to respond to the Lancers, going back and forth for goals in the second half as Senior Captain David Gormley scored 3 goals and star player Ivan Ijzerman (‘23) scored 2 goals to begin a strong comeback but St. Francis ended up holding on to the lead.

“If we played like we did in the second half throughout the whole game, the game would have definitely been a different outcome,” Ijzerman said.

Despite the loss, the Vikes look to keep the same hardworking effort and have this newfound momentum keep going on throughout league.

“I think we have the potential to make a good run for it and but we’re gonna have to stay focused everyday in practice, and you know in our warmups and preparation and results can follow,” Gormley said.
