The boys varsity water polo team won at home on Tuesday, defeating Los Altos 10-6.

The Vikings were off to a quick start with goals from seniors Damon Shultz and Jack Haney. They were able to build off that momentum and led with a score of 3-0 through the first quarter.

Star player Julien Chow (23’) left halfway through the second quarter after a calf cramp, but was able to return in the third quarter and put up two goals in a row. Los Altos attempted to make a comeback, but only got as close as two goals.

Haney led the team in scoring with three goals, followed by Chow and junior Ivan Ijzerman with two goals each.

“I think we did well, we passed well,” Haney said. “The effort was definitely there and I think we’re starting to work together as a team.”

The team will play Mountain View for the second time this season on Thursday. They hope to build on this win as close in towards the end of the season.

“It comes down to taking every game with a championship game mentality, a must win mentality,” captain David Gormley said. “I think if we can bring that focus to every game, there isn’t anyone we can’t beat.”
